What is the PrimeCare health group?
The PrimeCare health group is a provider network that represents the combined services of many of this area's finest doctors and hospitals. When you choose PrimeCare, you choose a network of doctors and hospitals that is one of the area's largest and most comprehensive.

Who is the PrimeCare health group?
The PrimeCare health group is a provider network that includes St. Alexius Medical Center and its Heart & Lung Clinic, Mid Dakota Clinic, The Bone & Joint Center, and numerous affiliated regional clinics, hopsitals and area doctors. Our members represent experienced, trusted, and proven medical providers in the region. We may have individual names and services, but you can be assured that members of the PrimeCare health group work together as a provider network to best serve your healthcare needs.

Why should I choose PrimeCare?
When you choose PrimeCare, you have access to:
  • A group of professionals committed to excellence and quality care
  • Providers with long-standing presence and tradition
  • The doctors and services of your choice
  • Personalized wellness and education
  • Advanced technology
This is different from what you may have heard about other networks. Other networks may choose your doctor for you.

Does this mean I can't choose my own doctor?
In PrimeCare, you choose. You make the choice. You can choose the doctors and services you've come to know and trust. Whether it is your family doctor or a specialist, you choose the doctor you want to see.

Please see our Doctor Directory for your PrimeCare doctor selection.

Does PrimeCare have all the healthcare services I need?
Yes. The PrimeCare health group offers a complete range of healthcare services, expertise, and the latest technology. In addition to your family doctor, we offer access to everything from specialty and chiropractic care to hospital care and home care.

Please see our Network Member Directory for more information.

What if I need some special treatment not available locally?
The PrimeCare health group is a full-service network. Very few services are not available locally. Your PrimeCare provider will make referrals to very specialized healthcare services and facilities if necessary.

Do I need a referral to see a doctor?

You may. Often, patients aren't able to make direct appointments with certain specialists because of the need for preliminary testing. In these cases, a medical referral is required from your primary care doctor in order to make an appointment with the specialist. Be sure to check with your primary care doctor or the specialist's scheduler for more information.

Do I need a referral for insurance purposes?

No. You can go to any PrimeCare doctor without an insurance referral. Insurance referrals are only required for medical care outside the PrimeCare network and out of state. However, insurance referrals are provided only if the services are not available within the PrimeCare health group.

Will my healthcare be limited?
No. If you need to see a doctor, call a PrimeCare doctor and make an appointment. It's that simple.

Will I be denied health services?
No. Contrary to what you may have seen on TV about network care, PrimeCare is committed to providing appropriate medical care.

How do I get in to see the doctor?
Appointments can be made by phone or with a Central Region doctor through Online Appointments. Please see our Doctor Directory to view a listing of doctors, specialties and clinics.

If you need a specialist and don't know who to see, contact your family physician.

How do health care networks control costs?
A healthcare network creates a relationship between you (the patient), your doctor, your employer and your insurance company. Each has a responsibility to ensure appropriate medical care. This results in quality care and controlled costs.

Why should I enroll in PrimeCare?
Choosing a network is a decision that really does matter. PrimeCare is committed to providing excellent care. That is evident by the national recognition awarded to our medical center and providers.

Over 90 percent of our doctors are board certified in their chosen professions. The PrimeCare healthcare team includes more than 2,500 doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians, specialists, and other support personnel. Many of these team members are recognized nationally and by their peers for their contributions to health, healing, and hands-on patient care.

St. Alexius Medical Center is among 2 percent of hospitals nationwide that are verified "trauma centers" by the American College of Surgeons.
